Lead vocalist and 2nd guitarist April Higuera fronts the band with her high-octane, range-driven vocals … accurately covering the rangy 80’s power vocal era in full voice. April is also an original singer/songwriter, having recorded 4 CDs of original music, with song placements in primetime national TV, cable TV, radio, and retail markets internationally. Hailing from NYC, April performed with her original band on the biggest rock stages in New York City as well as a national primetime television performance as female vocalist on Star Search. April also vocally backed recording artists in the studio and on stage, opening for major acts:  America, The Band (with special guest Bruce Springsteen). Later, April spent a decade writing songs in Nashville, before moving to South Lake Tahoe in 2003, and then to Reno in 2013.

April conceptualized Sierra Roc in 2019, quickly partnering with lead guitarist Kevin Jones. Neither of the two had performed live in many, many years. It was great luck and admiration at first sight, as they continue to lead the band and are the only two original members of Sierra Roc.

Lead guitarist and vocalist Kevin Jones hails from the Boston 1980’s rock music scene. Band members well know and fans agree that Kevin is one of the most skilled rock guitarists in Reno, shredding one-handed AC/DC guitar leads effortlessly while handing guitar picks to adoring fans. While the band cohesively works together on song choices and arrangements, Kevin is the musical director of the band, and April handles the admin, marketing, and majority of bookings. Alongside April’s jaw-dropping powerhouse vocals, Kevin drives the band with equally fan-wide-eyed guitar flair and poise.

Bassist and vocalist Scott Hudson is a Reno native, having performed in various area bands since the 1980’s. Scott was a session player at Granny’s House Studio and performed on two CDs from Granny’s which received national airplay. As a professional musician, Scott has played in bands opening for Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stanley Clarke, The Rippingtons, Richard Elliot, Saxon, Puddle of Mudd and John 5. Scott was a very welcome addition to Sierra Roc in 2022, providing proficiently played complicated bass lines, impeccable timing, and energetic showmanship, and is now one of the band’s musical leaders alongside Kevin Jones.

Newest member drummer Denny Evans joined Sierra Roc in August of 2023. Denny is an experienced, hard-hitting, true rock drummer that boosts the band up a notch in volume and energy (which the band firmly welcomes). Living and performing in the Reno/Tahoe area all his life, Denny has played in the bands: Bad Intent, Hiredgunnz, John Dawson Band, and Southern Cut (Patrice).

It’s no surprise that Sierra Roc, with its very high caliber musicianship and professional-minded personnel, has very quickly risen among the Reno ranks, consistently performing at sought-after local venues and having performed at large festivals and opened for national touring acts in their infancy.

You can catch a Sierra Roc performance locally, as they frequent their favorite local stomping grounds Peavine Taphouse and The Phoenix, as well as various other local venues in Reno/Carson/Tahoe from time to time, Sparks Marina Summer Concert Series, Heavenly Village Summer Concert Series, Portola Summer Concert Series, Run-A-Mucca main stage opener for headliners, and area festivals such as Riverfest and Sparks Nugget Rib Cook Off. The band is available for corporate events and private parties, as well.
